With climate adaptation set to be a major topic at Cop28, UNEP has published a new policy brief to better inform climate adaptation planning and implementation. The new policy brief summarises lessons and best practices from 23 different National Adaptation Plans that UNEP is supporting around the world. The brief focuses particularly on six countries that have progressed the furthest in their National Adaptation Plans – Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Iraq, Nepal, São Tomé and Principe, and Zimbabwe.

The assessment is structured using the Adaptation Gap Report’s five assessment criteria. In each criterion, a summary is provided of where investment and support is required and what examples of good practice and innovation could enhance cross-country learning, culminating in a set of key messages and design recommendations.
