The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution will serve as a global platform to provide independent, policy-relevant scientific assessments to support evidence-based action on chemicals, waste, and pollution prevention. The Panel will bring together governments, scientists, and other stakeholders to review scientific findings, adopt key reports, and guide the Panel’s work programme.
First session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution (ISP-CWP P1)
The session was hosted by the Government of Switzerland, from 2 to 6 February 2026, at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG). The session was preceded by regional and stakeholder meetings on 1 February 2026, at the same venue. Registration for the first session of the Plenary was open until 24 November 2025. Additional information are available on the event webpage.
In collaboration with the Geneva Environment Network (GEN), a series of webinars “Road to ISP-CWP P1” was organised to prepare governments, non-government stakeholders and other interested parties for the session. The first webinar of the series was held on 19 November 2025. Further information can be found on the webinar series webpage.
In preparation for the first session of the Plenary, members of the Panel are invited to nominate focal points through which relevant information on the convening of the session will be shared. Governments that are interested in becoming members of the Panel are also invited to contact the interim Secretariat to express their interest.
Once operational, the Panel will convene regular Plenary sessions, meetings of the Interdisciplinary Expert Committee, the Bureau and other bodies to advance its mandate. These sessions will provide opportunities for:
- Proposing, reviewing and approving scientific assessments on chemicals, waste, and pollution.
- Exchanging knowledge and best practices to inform policy and decision-making at global, regional, and national levels.
- Engaging with stakeholders, including governments, intergovernmental organizations, academia, and civil society, to ensure inclusive and transparent processes.
Updates on upcoming sessions, including agendas, background documents, and participation guidelines, will be published on the event page as they become available.
